Text Mode Video Resolution

Text Mode - Not Set (Text, monochrome)

Some games do not set the video mode to 80 or 40 column text and will display in whatever mode was set prior to starting the game. While this was most commonly 80 columns, early systems with CGA and compatible cards connected to a composite display could be set up via jumpers on the motherboard to boot in 40-column mode. This was done to improve text legibility as 80-column text was very difficult to read on a composite monitor or t.v. due to artifacting.
