Mockingboard A is part of the category Sound Hardware Supported.
Mockingboard is a series of sound boards by Sweet Micro Systems designed for the Apple II series of computers to improve the systems limited built in sound capabilities. Several models were released which included one or more General Instrument AY-3-8910 or compatible chips for PSG sound and, for some models, a voice synthesis chip (such as a Votrax SC-01 or a compatible variation of that chip).
The Mockingboard A included two AY-3-8913 sound chips for sound and also included two open sockets for optional SSI-263 speech chips. The AY-3-8913 is a variation of the popular AY-3-8910 in a smaller IC and provides the same sound capabilities; 3 channels of sound along with a noise channel. With two chips a total of 6 channels were available; Sound was in stereo with one AY chip for the left channel and the other for the right.
