The Tandy 1000 SL, TL, and RL series computers included hardware that provided an 8-bit DAC for digital sounds in addition to the 3 voice sound provided by the TI sound chip found on previous Tandy 1000 computers. Similar to Creative Lab's Sound Blaster card, the Tandy DAC featured DMA transfer capabilities so digital sounds could be played with minimal overhead on the main CPU. A sampling rate of up to 48 KHz was supported providing slightly better sound than the Sound Blaster. Despite being built into the motherboard of these Tandy computers and having bios support, the Tandy DAC failed to gain widespread support by game developers. Additionally, due to a bug in the hardware design it was not possible to use the DAC and a joystick at the same time.
