The YM2203 is a sound chip developed by Yamaha which could play up to 6 channels of sound. Sound generation was a mixture of technologies; 3 channels were 4-operator FM synthesis and the other 3 channels were a PSG the same as the YM2149F which was a variation of the General Instrument AY-3-8910. The chip was utilized in several NEC and Fujitsu computers in Japan along with numerous arcade games.
