Executive Suite for the IBM PC
Gameplay
At the start of Executive Suite, players need to interview for Mighty Microcomputer Corporation and will
be asked a series of questions ranging from the players name to education completed and prior work
experience. Luckily, there are a number of positions open so players can potentially get a job!
Based on answers to the inteview questions, a list of potential positions are listed and players can
choose to apply to one. The job level for the positions varies; the higher level jobs bring the player closer
to achieving their goal but may be harder to get depending on the experience the player has.
Now that players have a job, the main part of the game starts and it's time to attempt to become CEO! Players are presented with a series of multiple choice questions that need to be answered. Each question describes a particular scenario, and the answers provide a variety of ways the situation can be handled. Scenarios cover various workplace type situations, including how to handle a demanding boss, whether or not to socialize with co-workers, whether or not to join a union, how to respond to ethical issues, how subordinates will be managed, and many more. After each question the game provides a description of the impact the selected decision had; after several questions are answered, players are given a performance review and will be able to selected another new job position. The job positions offered can depend on several factors; the first is the economy. After each performance review the economy may change randomly, and if the economy is better then more job openings are available. Additionally, if players did well, a promotion could be provided allowing even higher level jobs to become available (or if they didn't do well, players could be fired).
The game ends when players either succeed and achieve their goal of becoming CEO or fail in one of several possible scenarios. Non-winning game endings include being fired, retiring, and leaving the company for a different job. At the end of the game statistics on your performace are provided including salary, perks earned, age, and more. The program allows games in progress to be saved for continuing later.
