Overview
Story Maker is a simple educational/creative writing program by Sierra On-Line released for the Apple II, Commodore 64, and IBM PC/PCjr in 1984. Designed for children ages 7 - 14, the program allows users to write their own stories and create matching graphics which can then be presented.
The program consists of three main screens. The first allows users to create a title page by entering a title, author, and date. The title page will always be presented with the game's title graphic when viewing the story. The next screen allows users to enter in their story with a free-form text editor. The story can be any length and also allows pictures to be referenced which will be shown when viewing. The final screen is a simple drawing program where the pictures can be created. Several sample pictures are included which can be used as is or modified, or users can create their own pictures from scratch.
The story elements can be created in any order and can be modified after creation as well. Once the story is done, it can be viewed by flipping through the pages one at time with a key press; text and images aren't shown together, instead the images are shown full screen at their appropriate location in the story. The resulting story can also be viewed stand-alone without having to own a copy of Story Maker so they can be sent to friends and family. A blank disk is required to save stories with one blank disk and a set of disk labels included in the game package.
